The Fourth International Conference on Risk Assessment of Pharmaceuticals in the Environment (ICRAPHE) was held in Barcelona, Spain, on October 9th and 10th, 2023. This conference provided a platform to discuss pressing issues, including environmental monitoring, bioanalytical tools, ecological and health effects, hazards and risks, microplastics, and innovative remediation technologies.
As part of the conference program, the Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA) contributed by presenting findings from the PRIMA-SAFE project. ICRA researcher Josephine Vosse showcased research during a poster presentation titled:
- “Health risk related to the chronic ingestion of greywater irrigated crops from decentralized water reuse application”, authored by Vosse, J., Santos, L.H.M.L.M., Mendoza, E., Comas, J., Rodriguez-Mozaz, S., and Buttiglieri, G.
The presentation highlighted potential health risks associated with long-term consumption of crops irrigated with greywater in decentralized water reuse systems. The findings emphasized the importance of understanding the implications of water reuse on both human health and environmental safety.
PRIMA-SAFE’s participation at ICRAPHE 2023 underscores the project’s focus on addressing critical challenges related to pharmaceuticals in the environment, advancing safe and sustainable practices for water reuse in agriculture.
