💧🌱 During our recent visit to Oued Souhil, Nabeul, our team conducted surveys with local farmers to gather in-depth data on key issues affecting agriculture in the region, particularly focusing on wastewater treatments (WWT), soil health, and salinity. These discussions provided valuable information about the farmers’ experiences with wastewater reuse in irrigation, the impacts of salinity on soil quality, and how these factors influence crop productivity.
From the surveys, we learned about the specific challenges farmers face with soil salinity, which can increase with repeated use of treated wastewater. By collecting data on their irrigation practices and soil conditions, we’re gaining insights that will help optimize water reuse methods to support both crop yield and soil sustainability. Farmers also shared their observations on how wastewater treatments impact soil nutrients and plant health, giving us a real-world understanding that complements our scientific studies.
This data is essential to the PRIMA-SAFE project’s mission to refine sustainable water management practices that align with the needs of local agriculture. By combining farmer insights with scientific analysis, we’re working to develop solutions that will help farmers achieve resilient, sustainable farming practices in a changing climate.
