PRIMA-SAFE: Advancing Research and Collaboration in Montpellier

The latest consortium meeting of the PRIMA-SAFE project, “Sustainable Water Reuse Practices Improving Safety in Agriculture, Food, and Environment”, was held in Montpellier, France, on October 28th, 2024. This gathering marked another milestone in the project’s mission to develop innovative and sustainable water reuse practices tailored for agriculture while safeguarding environmental and human health.

During the meeting, the consortium reviewed progress and discussed ongoing research activities. A key focus was on the work being carried out by the Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA). ICRA is conducting detailed characterizations of emerging pollutants in crops such as tomatoes, cultivated in pilot sites located in Tunisia, Morocco, Greece, and Italy. This research aims to assess the environmental and human health risks associated with irrigation practices using treated wastewater.

The discussions also centered on strategies to optimize water quality monitoring and mitigation measures, ensuring safe and sustainable agricultural practices. The collaborative efforts among the PRIMA-SAFE partners continue to drive impactful research and innovative solutions for the Mediterranean region’s water reuse challenges.
