The International Workshop on Sustainable Water Reuse in Agriculture, held within the framework of the PRIMA-SAFE project, took place in Thessaloniki, Greece, from July 10th to 14th, 2024. This event brought together researchers and consortium members to discuss advancements in water reuse strategies designed to enhance safety for the environment and human health.
The workshop emphasized the role of innovative water management approaches in promoting sustainable agricultural production systems. As part of this initiative, researchers from the Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA), Sara Rodriguez-Mozaz and Sofia Semitsoglou-Tsiapou, delivered the following platform presentations:
- Pharmaceutical contamination in reclaimed water irrigation systems in Greece and Spain, presented by Rodriguez-Mozaz, S., Alonso, L.L., Santos, L.H.M.L.M., Semitsoglou-Tsiapou, S., Castaño-Trias, M., Wang, Z., Vosse, J., and Buttiglieri, G.
- Preliminary report on organic micropollutant uptake from the tomato plant fertigated with wastewater, presented by Semitsoglou-Tsiapou, S., Rodriguez-Mozaz, S., and Buttiglieri, G.
These presentations highlighted the challenges and progress in addressing pharmaceutical contamination and organic micropollutant uptake in agriculture, reflecting the project’s dedication to scientific rigor and real-world impact.
The workshop also provided an opportunity for the PRIMA-SAFE consortium to discuss ongoing research, exchange ideas, and strengthen collaborative efforts in addressing water scarcity and pollution in the Mediterranean region.
